Maintenance

Aftercare

Solar PV stands as a steadfast investment; a diligently maintained system can serve for 20 to 30 years, requiring minimal expenditure on replacement components.

For the optimisation of your system’s performance and to ensure the projected financial benefits, we advise the following:

  • Performance monitoring
  • Regular electrical testing and component inspection.

Maintenance Solutions FAQs

Solar panel maintenance helps keep your system running safely, efficiently and in line with expected performance. Regular checks can identify faults, damaged components, inverter issues or performance drops before they affect long-term energy generation.

Annual servicing is commonly recommended for solar PV systems. This gives installers the opportunity to review system performance, inspect key components, check electrical connections and confirm that the system is operating as expected.

Maintenance can include performance monitoring, electrical testing, inverter checks, panel inspections, cabling checks, switchgear inspection, fault identification and cleaning where required. The exact scope depends on the system type, site conditions and maintenance package.

Yes. Many solar systems include monitoring tools that provide performance data and help identify underperformance or faults. Remote monitoring can make it easier to track generation, spot irregularities and arrange maintenance when needed.

If a system underperforms, the cause should be investigated through monitoring data, inverter logs, electrical checks and on-site inspection where required. Common causes may include shading, dirt build-up, inverter issues, damaged cabling or component faults.

Yes, maintenance may be available for systems installed by other companies, depending on the system type, access, documentation and condition. An initial inspection can help assess the system and identify any urgent maintenance requirements.

Solar PV systems are typically designed to last 25 to 30 years or more. Panels may gradually reduce in output over time, but regular maintenance can help protect performance, extend system life and reduce the risk of avoidable faults.

Solar panel maintenance costs are usually low compared with the long-term savings a system can generate. Regular servicing can also help prevent more costly issues by identifying small faults before they become larger problems.

Solar panels do not always need frequent cleaning, as rain can remove some surface dirt. Cleaning may be recommended where panels are affected by bird droppings, heavy dust, tree debris or other build-up that could reduce performance.

The inverter is a key part of a solar PV system because it converts electricity generated by the panels into usable power for the property. Inverter checks can review performance logs, software updates, cooling, wiring and configuration to help keep the system operating correctly.

Aftercare Journey

Step 1

Yearly system review

Site visit will be arranged to guarantee your Solar PV system functions at peak capacity.

Step 2

Evaluation

We will evaluate the following:

  • Monitor all the DC circuits
  • Assess switchgear and junction boxes/distribution boards
  • Validate monitoring capabilities (if present)
  • Inspect all electrical endpoints
Step 3

Panel checks

  • Visually inspect for any damages
  • Review cabling and connections against wear and environmental effects
  • Clean the panel, if deemed necessary
  • Test clamp torque
Step 4

Inverter checks

  • Evaluate inverter logs
  • Update inverter software, if updates are available
  • Clean inverter cooling fans and air vents
  • Verify the condition of wiring and connection points
  • Ensure inverter configurations are optimal
Step 5

Annual review against the market

Annual Review Against the Market

  • New provider entrants
  • Customer change in requirements e.g. just purchased an electric car
  • Recommended provider and why (against the requirements)
  • Suggested tariffs to support general usage and buy back
Step 6

Optional panel clean

  • Use of filtered or de-ionised water to clean the panels
