Stourbridge Glass Museum – Solar PV Rooftop Installation

The client

Stourbridge Glass Museum preserves over 400 years of British glassmaking heritage, showcasing the craft through live demonstrations and exhibitions.

With rising energy costs and an ambition to become Europe’s first fully carbon-neutral glass studio, the museum wanted to transition to fully electric glass production powered by renewable energy.

The solution

Kembla designed and installed a bespoke 69.1 kWp Solar PV and battery storage system to help power the museum’s energy-intensive glassmaking operations.

The installation was carefully planned around the building and its operational needs, minimising disruption and allowing the museum to continue welcoming visitors throughout the project.

The impact

The solar installation is helping Stourbridge Glass Museum generate renewable electricity on-site, reduce its reliance on the grid and support its transition to fully electric glass production.

With an estimated annual generation of 54.34 MWh across all sites, 10.51 tonnes of carbon emissions saved and a projected payback period of just 3 years, the project demonstrates how renewable energy and battery storage can help energy-intensive organisations reduce operating costs while working towards their sustainability goals.
